(Scot Nelson)īecause of the high humidity and frequent rain, Powdery Mildew is common in Hawaiʻi. The most effective treatment is to spray the plant with copper fungicide. This helps slow the spread of the disease. Remove the dead and dying leaves immediately. If you look closely, you will notice the spot is a series of concentric circles. Early Blight appears first on the lower leaves as dark brown spots. This is less serious than Late Blight and is not likely to kill the plant if identified and immediately treated. It can kill a tomato plant in a few days.ĭon’t let the infected plant remain in your garden. The lesions quickly spread, causing leaf distortion, followed by yellowing, shriveling and death. Late Blight usually appears on the upper, newer leaves as brown lesions. This is the same species which caused the Irish Potato Famine. Once it is established there is little you can do but destroy the plant. This is almost always a fatal disease that usually occurs during the cool, rainy months. Increasing air flow and reducing ambient moisture may help. Before planting anything again, treat the soil with a fungicide following the product’s directions. The entire plant, roots, leaves, blossoms and fruit need to be removed and destroyed. Once infected, the fruit is inedible unless you are a bird or rat. A small, round sunken spot that may be pinkish or white in color often darkens as it increases in size on the fruit. This is a soil-borne disease that doesn’t appear until the fruit begins to ripen. 6/18/2023 0 Comments Artrage studio software![]() ![]() It is a full-featured digital painting program for Windows and macOS that brings together the convenience of digital editing tools, the realism of traditional paint texture and colors and the fun of creating art in one easy to use, professional level, program.ĪrtRage helps you create art more easily, letting you just start painting without struggling with either the cost of materials or figuring out complicated brush settings. ArtRage is the latest release from Ambient Design. It’s a canvas for thick, expressive oils and delicate watercolors, a sketchpad with a full set of pencils, and a sheet of paper with a stack of wax crayons all in one. The title of this article is semi misleading as I am not comparing digital painting with parrots, but it is accurate in the sense that I used the same reference photo of a parrot for doing the painting studies.ArtRage is a digital artist’s studio for Windows PC with a full range of familiar tools that look and work like the real things. You can find the reference I used on Pexels. Photo by James Frid from Pexelsįor this article I’ve done studies of a parrot in the 2D digital painting software I have access to: Clip Studio Paint, PD Howler 2022, Krita 4, Rebelle 4, Realistic Paint Studio, ArtRage 6, Corel Painter 2022 (trial) and Paintstorm Studio. Over the years I’ve tried to give everything I can a go. I haven’t done a parrot study in Affinity Photo, perhaps I’ll add that to the article one day if I have time. I’m not being sponsored or asked to do this either. ![]() Unfortunately I can’t extend my budget to buy an iPad and try Procreate, but I hear it is also a good option to consider for emulating natural mediums. You could also try out Adobe Fresco if you have an Adobe subscription. #Artrage studio pro vs corel painter trialĪs for Corel Painter, I don’t own a current copy but I gave the trial a go just for this article. I braved the marketing pop ups just for you, luckily I figured out how to disable them. ![]() #Artrage studio pro vs corel painter how to I wanted to stick to a sort of oil/acrylic painting style for these studies. I had to focus on one aspect for this article due to the potential time constraints of looking at all of the other features. I think all of the software with a few exceptions are pretty similar. If one software has a feature that another does not, there is always the possibility of mixing them so as not to limit your creativity. I’m not reviewing the software in this article, I’ll just give some opinions on what I liked and what I would have liked. #Artrage studio pro vs corel painter software I also recorded my process of painting the parrot for each of the different software. I think I’ve had enough of parrots for a while. I’ve not used PD Howler very much for painting, but it has a lot of really interesting features. So many features, I still haven’t explored all of them. When I first tried Howler I immediately liked it for painting in because it reminded me of Corel Painter. The way you can use paper textures for the brushes is very similar, and it has some lovely blendy oil paint and pastel/oil pastel type brushes. For those of you that are new to my blog, Corel Painter was the first digital painting program I used other than an old copy of Photoshop which I didn’t get on with. I still have some nostalgia for Corel Painter, it was lovely for digital painting back in the day. ![]() The user interface of PD Howler is similar to older versions of Corel Painter and has lots of different themes to choose from. PD Howler does have a few things I would like to be improved though. I’d like to be able to see where I am on the colour wheel. All of the other programs I tried for this article have a little white dot which tells you where you are in relation to other colours on the wheel. I find this pretty essential and it is frustrating that this program doesn’t have that, although it does have a lot of other features to do with picking colours. I’m so used to having this that it makes painting in it quite frustrating. I would also like to be able to use the space bar for panning around the screen rather than using CTRL + Shift, just because all of the other programs generally use that button for the panning function. The hotkey for the colour picker is usually Alt (CTRL in Krita but I think you can change it to Alt) in other programs as well, but this program uses a different hotkey for that as well. 6/18/2023 0 Comments Nissan passenger van long beach![]() ![]() The base model of the NV Passenger range is an entirely capable people mover: its robust V6 engine and basic interior make it perfect for businesses or large, young, and active families who need something hard-wearing. With only three trim levels and a price difference of $6,750 separating the base model from the range-topping SL, there's little to no chance of choosing the wrong NV. The Nissan doesn't pretend to be anything other than an honest-to-goodness passenger van built to take people places without having to shout about it, and if you manage to look past that disaster zone of a front-end, you'll find a genuine, hardworking van that's eager to please. Features such as dual-zone climate control and satellite radio are considered luxuries in the NV but manage your expectations (and your budget), and the NV Passenger Van will surprise you with how comfortable it can be. Both the naturally aspirated six and eight-cylinder engine options get the job done without complaint, but the V8 is by far the easier engine to live with on a daily basis. There are, however, a few upsides to its van roots you get tons of space, over 320 different ways to configure the seating arrangement, and a sturdy platform that will stand up to years of hard abuse. The first thing you'll have to come to terms with is its unavoidable cargo van DNA, which makes it difficult to navigate in tight spaces, makes it drive and handle like a 1940s school bus (okay, maybe not that bad), and affords it the visual appeal of a light industrial complex on the wrong side of town. There is no doubt that the Nissan NV Passenger Van is a compromised vehicle it was designed as a cargo van but has ended up with the task of carrying 12 people and their stuff around in some semblance of comfort. There are more premium and better driving options on offer in the US market such as the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but they can't match the Nissan's low starting price of only $36,860. ![]() Not too exciting then, is it? That's precisely why it's so good it just gets on with it. It has most of the tech and safety features you'd expect to see on a modern people carrier, and it does exactly what is asked of it. For 2021, Nissan offers three trim levels and two engine choices. The 2021 Nissan NV, first introduced in 2012, is a great example of a back to basics, no-nonsense human carrier, designed to transport Homo Sapiens from one point of consumption to the next, and while some do it with more style, the NV Passenger Van does it economically and reliably. Advances in medicine and an ever-increasing birth rate means that there are more of us on this planet than ever before - this might not be so great for our freshwater sources and the general wellbeing of our world, but for large passenger vans such as the Nissan NV Passenger, things couldn't look any brighter. ![]() 6/18/2023 0 Comments Postcard costs![]() ![]() ![]() *Based on estimations from and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 9a,15a 9b,15b 1c,2c* Using a mix of a purchased mailing list and your list of current customers, as well as an affordable designer, you can create, print and mail 20,000 letters at First-Class Mail ® rates for about $15,000. 15a 15b 1c* Using a list of your current customers but working with an affordable designer, you can create, print and mail 8,000 full-color postcards at USPS Marketing Mail ® rates for less than $4,000. 6/18/2023 0 Comments Trex deck fire pit![]() ![]() Composite decks aren’t completely maintenance free.īut how hot can composite decking get in the sun? One study found that in direct sunlight, composite decks can reach temperatures from 34° to 76° F hotter than the surrounding air.Durability comes at a cost, as composite decking is more expensive than wood. What are the disadvantages of composite decking? For example, the labor to replace a deck with Trex or wood might both be $4000. The labor to install composite is the same as the labor to install wood, which will rot and require a lot of maintenance. Yes, composite materials on decking and trim are worth the money. Trex and composite decking will still scratch, but will show the scratches less visibly than treated wood decking. There are three main ways to stop your dog from scratching the deck: make your dog wear booties, change your deck material, or train your pooch. Removing Snow or Ice from Composite Decking.Trex Decking Problems – Disadvantages of Composite Decking What are the disadvantages of Trex decking? Although Solo Stoves emit less heat than other types of fire pits, they could still damage your deck over prolonged periods of use. Solo Stoves are safe to use on both wood or Trex decking, provided you also use the Solo Stove stand or a heat resistant fire pit barrier underneath. So, a gas-powered fire pit is typically OK on top of your composite decking. Plus, gas fire pits are designed to keep heat from going down. Can you use a propane heater on a composite deck? A temperature barrier can be bricks, stone or ceramic tiles or fire mats. Trex decking can soften and become damaged at temperatures as low as 176F. You should not place your fire pit directly on your composite decking. ![]() Use caution not to scratch your boards when removing snow or ice with a snow shovel and never use a metal snow shovel on an older generation deck. If you own one of the older generation Trex composite decks, such as Accents®, calcium chloride or rock salt may be used but should be rinsed off as soon as possible. Wood burning fire pits can damage the decking due to the extreme heat from the bottom of the fire pit and/or burning embers “shooting” onto the decking. Wood burning fire pits are not recommended on top of Trex decking unless using a product called DeckProtect™. The use of a pressure washer on deck surface could damage the decking surface and will void the warranty with respect to any condition caused by the pressure washing. Trex does not recommend the use of a pressure washer. Trex deck design comes in three types: Select, Enhance, and Transcend. What are the three grades of Trex decking? In some cases, Trex can become so hot that it may become unusable under intense, direct sunlight. While wood gets hot enough to make walking with bare feet uncomfortable, composite decking gets even hotter. It still requires occasional attention to keep it looking its best, but you’ll be delighted with the finished results.
